In June 2021 whilst studying Level 3 Creative Media at Sunderland College in year 1, I was tasked with the project of creating a Barbering Tutorial video. This was a project to be made in the form of a video for Mark Sowerby, who is the Barbering lecturer at Sunderland College. The video that I filmed and edited was used during his lectures at the college.

I decided to create a short advert on things that made people happy during the Covid 19 pandemic. I constructed the video using clips from real people of how they were keeping a smile on their faces while in quarantine.

Your Art Commissions Press Release

YOUR ART READY TO HELP
COMMUNITY GROUPS

AN award-winning arts project is offering help and support to community groups in Sunderland and South Tyneside.

The Cultural Spring, a project funded by Arts Council England to increase participation in the arts and culture, has launched its latest round of Your Art support which is aimed at grass-roots, community organisations.

Your Art is a scheme that is designed to create more opportunities for people in local community groups that are based in the Sunderland and South Tyneside area to get involved in arts and culture.

Over the past few years, the Cultural Spring has invested more than £100,000 in dozens of local community groups through its Your Art scheme.

Emma Horsman, The Cultural Spring Project Director, stated: ‘The Cultural Spring is keen to work with amateur/community arts, cultural or creative groups in South Tyneside and Sunderland to support you to develop your arts and culture opportunities and encourage more people to get involved in activities.’

‘To be considered for support, your group must: Be based and meet within South Tyneside and Sunderland (including the Coalfields and Washington). Deliver arts, cultural or creative activities for the benefit of residents living in South Tyneside and Sunderland. Be an amateur/community group led by volunteers/the community. Have a bank or building society account into which any funds can be paid. Demonstrate a track record of successfully running the group.’ Emma added.

This is specifically targeted towards those who work with families, men and ethnically diverse communities.

Applicants must explain how their proposal links to the ambitions of The Cultural Spring whilst being open to new members and have the opportunities for long term sustainability. Along with this, these creative groups must have good value for money and a commitment to being involved in the evaluation process should they be lucky enough to secure support from The Cultural Spring.
